What will Glenn Beck and Mark Levin do once their purebred Constitutional conservative endorses Donald Trump? That’s right, I said it! It is going to happen. And the emotional turmoil it will cause for some in the so-called conservative movement could result in career ending meltdowns.
If we know one thing for sure about Ted Cruz is that he’s an opportunist. His whole campaign strategy was to ride in Trump’s wake and then make his own waves once the other candidates had been destroyed. And even though Cruz is one of the most unappealing human beings ever created, he managed to garner support from the likes of Lindsey Graham and Jeb Bush.
The second thing we know about Ted Cruz is he is about Ted Cruz. Never in my lifetime have I seen a more puffed up man whose very existence is one long conversation about himself. Trump was wise to stroke Cruz’s ego in his Indiana victory speech. Cruz can no longer demonize Trump as the maniacal Manhattan business mogul. Donald Trump knows how to disarm his opponents.
There will be a modest recovery time that is needed before Cruz gives his “blessing” to Trump’s campaign. If Cruz has a shred of anti-establishment in his DNA he would look like the world’s biggest hypocrite if he allowed Hillary Clinton to become president by rejecting the platform that he vigorously espoused at the end of his campaign.
And finally, Ted Cruz wants a place at the table. It could be that Cruz wants to be Attorney General or Secretary of State. He wants in on the tsunami wave – and he wants to be positioned for his own run for the presidency when Trump’s term ends. There is even a small shot that if the two men can sit at a table across from one another, that Cruz might be offered the VP spot. The only thing getting in the way of that possibility is Cruz himself. He brings in no independents and he polls miserably with women.
In the end Ted Cruz will fold like a cheap suit. He wants in on the new administration. His ability to command authority in the senate has been greatly compromised by the way he conducted his campaign. And there is no better way out than a ride on the Trump train.
Look for an endorsement sometime after the California primary.
